In the Body Lies the Truth
Curatorial Text
The body is never simply a body. It is a record — of labour, desire, illness, tenderness, and time. The works in this exhibition refuse the body as spectacle and insist instead on its interiority: its pressures, its temperatures, its capacity to hold and to release.
Assembled across nine artistic positions, *In the Body Lies the Truth* does not seek to represent the body but to enact conditions in which the body becomes legible through what surrounds it. Paint applied until it buckles. Thread pulled until it tears. Clay worked past the point of certainty. Image-making as something closer to touch than sight.
Thom Oosterhof, who conceived the exhibition, has worked with each of the nine artists over several years, and this exhibition marks a sustained engagement with questions of materiality, sensation, and the persistently physical nature of artistic thought.
