Billy Gibney

Billy Gibney (b. 1985, Dublin) is a painter working in the tradition of the flat plane and the obstinate object. His canvases resist illusionism by insisting on their own surface — thick, layered, worked and reworked until the image and the object become indistinguishable. Gibney studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and the Slade School of Fine Art, London.

He has exhibited internationally at Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin; Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris; and IOMO Gallery, Bucharest. He lives and works in Cork.
