Mircea Roman ↗
Biography
Mircea Roman (b. 1978, Timișoara) is an artist working primarily with video and installation. His projects address the politics of visibility, the archive, and forms of collective memory in post-socialist Eastern Europe. His practice involves extensive documentary research, which is then subjected to radical formal transformation — slowed, cut, looped, layered — until the source material yields to the logic of another time.
Roman’s work has been exhibited at documenta 15, Kassel; the Venice Biennale (Romanian Pavilion); the Gwangju Biennale; and IOMO Gallery, among others. He is the recipient of the Henkel Art Award and the Austrian Frederick and Lillian Kiesler Private Foundation Award.
